crossing-the-deductible-hoodie-prior-authorize-this
Crossing The Deductible Hoodie | Prior Authorize This.

You pay your health insurance premium every month. On time, whether you see a doctor or not. Then the day comes when you actually need the coverage you’ve been paying for, and you find out it hasn’t started yet. First you have to cross the deductible, often thousands of dollars out of your own pocket. And that’s if the claim doesn’t get denied on the way over.

So you row. You put off the appointment to see if it gets better on its own. You pay the bills in pieces. You book the scan in October because you’re almost across. Then the calendar turns, the deductible resets to zero, and you’re back on the near shore holding the oars. Still paying the premium.

The art is a parody of Washington Crossing the Delaware, the 1851 painting by Emanuel Leutze. Same freezing water, same small boat, same faces set against the wind. Except the river is made of medical bills, and the woman at the front is a patient holding her IV pole like a flag. If you’ve been lucky enough never to learn these words: the premium is what you pay each month to have insurance, and the deductible is what you pay on top of that before your plan starts sharing most of the costs.

This hoodie is for everyone in that boat. The patient planning surgery around the plan year. The family on a high-deductible plan, stretching one deductible across three diagnoses. The person who finally reached the other side in November and got six good weeks of the coverage they’d been paying for since January.

Washington got a painting for one crossing. You make yours every year, and pay a monthly fee for the privilege.

Midweight 50/50 fleece pullover with a front pouch pocket. Unisex S–3XL.
